Uefa Cups by Ricardo

Main » Entries archive
I added all updates of last weekend. Unfortunately I have some problems with my home-computer(motherboard crashed) so I have  work around that. But still there is much happening: Bohemians is the new Irish champion and see for yourself how close the other summerleagues are getting to their champions...
But first CL&UC this week.

And a new round in the leagues has been played. Summerleagues getting to their conclusion. Stabaek is almost champion in Norway, while in Finland Inter Turku and Honka are level with 2 matches to go.

to be continued.

So we have 40 more eliminated teams. Holland did great and kept all their 5 teams in UC. In the end it was mostly seede teams that qualified, or a top-10 team. If we leave those out we are left with a handfull of real surprises: Zagreb, Standard, Metalist, Lech and Zilina. 28 out of 40 are teams from the top 10. I wonder how this will be next year. Of course ther will be 48 teams, but what will we see. The new 20% rule sounds like more top-3 teams will be unseeded, especially in the new Europa League, which makes that last Q4 more unpredictable and maybe draw-dependend. We'll see next year.

For now I updated the country'09 and team'09 -predictions. Ther still will be interesting battles, but most seem already finished:
5th France-Russia. Russians seem to go dormant in November/December, that might cost them the 5th spot!
9/10th Portugal-Ukraine. With keeping Benfica, I think Portugal has advantage enough to keeep on their lead
15/16 Belgium-Denmark: Denmark has starte ... Read more »

And I updated all the leagues with last weekends match. And we have a new chapion in Iceland: Hafnarfjordur! I wouldn't have seen that one coming 10 days ago, where they were trailing the leader by 8 points. OK with a game in hand, but still.....Well done!

For the calcualtions and in the extended team-ranking, I have used Bert adjusted page with the 20-pct country rule, as that seems to be the new rule for next year. I haven't checked which differences it made comparing the 2 teamrankings in relation to seeding lines in CL and/or UC(sorry EL!)

I'm looking forward to this week, nit because of the Liverpool-PSV match - I fear a big loss for my PSV(see Lyonnais game), but on Thursday 40 teams will drop out. I hope for some big names to drop! And for the Dutch teams to do well NEC and Twente are doing pretty good, and have a chance despite being not-seeded. On the other hand Feyenoord is a mess.....

And I have updated all info with the results of the CL&UC matches of last week. for UC I still hold on to the seeded team as the one to qualify, as it is still possible.
For CL a few changes have already happened: Shaktar has taken 3rd spot from Basel and Atletico 3rd spot form Marseille, causing already some changes.. I suppose more will follow with next week elimination round, though the number of seede teams being really in real trouble are not that big, though some big names do appear in that list: Benfica, Tottenham, Deportivo, Feyenoord. But a lot still really have to show their seeded status to progress. As I like the underdog I wouldn't mind all these teams to fail, also teams like Everton, Rapid, Dinamo. Of course some of this is influenced by me being Dutch- I would really like to see NEC and Twente (succeed) in Europe.

I also have corrected a number of team-coefficients, I hadn't used the latest names they use on SoccerWay, s ... Read more »

Just in time before the CL-GS and UC-Round 1 starts I have put all the known sheets on my site. I'm sorry it took so long. But still, looking at it, there are some strange clubs appearing in CL, that will surely never make it. The season is stil long....
The only sheet that's missing is the Domestic Cup sheet. I always start late with that, as it's undoable to already cope with it in the early rounds of it. Of course some are already further. I will try to find that out soon (e.g. read the topic on Berts forum :) )
For this week: have fun with all the matches and I hope good results for your facorit team (except when they play a Dutch team of course)

Oh yes, I still have to update the leagoverview sheet to let it contain Q4 in the columns behind the tables (does anybody use those columns actualy, do you know what they were for? I will update them anyway, because I looked at them (sometimes).

After some request of the Veselyev brothers I decided to introduce a forum. I thought it wasn;t necessary as we have Bert's forum, but things specifically concerning my sheets can be discussed here. I prefer to keep all discussion about coefficients on Berts forum, but if there is something about my sheets, either the format or the way the predictions go you/we can discuss it here.

At the same time i also put up a new Poll if you think this forum should be here or not. Actually i wanted only to put that there, but the forum was already installed before I realised I did that.
Have fun and let me know what you think!

Ryan told me there wre some errors. He was correct,
SHerrif Tiraspol(Mol) - Aktobe Lento(Kaz),
Drogheda(Irl) - Levadia Talinn(Est) and
Valur(Ice) - BATE(Bls)
were not taken into account, so their points are higher then previously shown.
Sorry.

Now the qualification rounds have finished, the points are now doubled ( or not halved anymore, what you prefer). There still be a big elimination round with UC first round, but the CL already has their GS starting. It is already getting  a bit clearer how the countries will move to their final position.
I have uploaded the new predicted team&country ranking '09. Clear is that Scotland, Belgium , Ukraine, Czech, Greece, Bulgaria all lost a team, making Turkey suddenly top-candidate for spot 10. Looking at my prediction it shows there is a big fight for 15th spot between Belgium, Czech, Bulgaria and Denmark.
Just for information it is nice to see that there is hardly any light between France and Russia......

Other sheets will follow, but I''m afraid I won't have much time (again) this weekend. I need to sit and do it I know, but please keep patient. Sorry for the inconvenience...

A few months ago I introduced the pdf-format of my sheets to get the size of the sheets a lot smaller. Though it is a bit slower for me to prepare all the info for this site, I think it is a better format. The questionis, should I also keep delivering the old format, or is it sufficient when only the pdf format will be available. Thanks for replying.
